For years the reflex answer to "where should we eat in Beverly Hills tonight" pointed back at a Wilshire hotel dining room. That reflex is out of date. The openings that landed in the first half of 2026, and the ones about to land, have pulled the center of gravity two blocks north, onto Canon Drive and Beverly Drive, where a resident on foot can now string together a pre-concert drink, a first-run tasting menu, and a walk home under jacaranda without ever crossing Wilshire.
The window to see this shift as a live streetscape, rather than a finished one, closes on August 20, when the city's free Thursday concert series wraps for the season and construction hoardings around Rodeo and the future One Beverly Hills site take the visual foreground again.
The corridor moved north
The single most useful thing to know about the current dining map is that the marquee 2026 arrivals are clustered on a walkable spine, not scattered across the city. The Waldorf Astoria's ground floor at 9850 Wilshire is the exception that proves the rule, and even there, the Tuscan-inspired Baldi replaced the former Jean-Georges space in February, with chef Edoardo "Edo" Baldi drawing from his Baldi family roots. Everything else worth walking to opened north of Wilshire.
A partial inventory of what has landed on or near Canon and Beverly:
- Bad Roman, 267 N. Canon Drive. The former Palm steakhouse space now houses the debut West Coast restaurant from Quality Branded, behind New York rooms including Quality Meats, Quality Italian and Don Angie. The LA menu keeps the New York signatures and adds an exclusive spicy lobster pasta and burrata collaboration with The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills.
- Sushi Nakazawa, 145 S. Robertson Blvd. The Michelin-starred omakase concept created in New York by Alessandro Borgognone and chef-owner Daisuke Nakazawa opened its first West Coast location in the former Cuvee space, with two experiences: the chef's menu at $295 or the classic at $190.
- Marea Beverly Hills, 88 Club from Top Chef winner Mei Lin, Pura Vida, Levain Bakery, All'Antico Vinaio, Hi Bake, and Bacio di Latte, most of them first West Coast or first U.S. locations, per the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau's own accounting.
- Gemma, on top of the Waldorf, where the rooftop bar formerly known as Rooftop by JG has been reworked as a pan-Asian restaurant.
If you draw a line from Robertson east to Canon and up to Beverly Drive, you now have more Michelin pedigree and more first-in-market restaurants inside a fifteen-minute walk than the city has ever supported at once.
What the geography actually tells you
A cluster of openings is not the same as a story. The story here is that operators with strong New York and European brands are choosing Beverly Hills specifically for their first Los Angeles address, and they are choosing storefronts, not hotel leases.
Bad Roman took a steakhouse box that had been on Canon since the 1970s. Sushi Nakazawa took a wine bar. Quality Branded was described in trade press as bringing its "performative Italian" from Columbus Circle to Beverly Hills, which is a real estate decision as much as a culinary one: the group is betting on foot traffic and streetside visibility rather than a captive hotel audience. The Waldorf's ground-floor turnover from Jean-Georges to Baldi in February is the reverse case, and it stands out precisely because it is now the exception.
For a resident, the practical consequence is that the pre-dinner and post-dinner drink you used to take at a hotel bar can now be a walk. That is not a small change for a city whose sidewalks have historically emptied out after 8 p.m.
Thursdays have a deadline
The other thing rewriting the neighborhood right now is temporary. Concerts on Canon runs at Beverly Cañon Gardens, 241 N. Canon Drive, on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m., with programming that rotates through classic rock, jazz, Caribbean, Brazilian, and Persian sets. The series wraps for the summer on August 20. After that the gardens go back to being a lunch spot.
The relevant geography is that the concert lawn is roughly thirty yards from the front door of Bad Roman and a block and change from Levain, All'Antico Vinaio, and the Bacio di Latte counter. A workable Thursday sequence for a resident who does not want to move a car:
- 5:45 p.m., pick up a sandwich or a scoop on Canon and eat it on a bench while the band sets up.
- 6:00 to 8:00, the set itself. July 30 is Woodie and the Longboards, a Beach Boys tribute with vintage surf hits; the remaining Thursdays through August 20 rotate genres.
- 8:15, walk two blocks for a late reservation at Bad Roman or a nightcap at Gemma on top of the Waldorf.
Three Thursdays remain in the 2026 run. If a resident has been meaning to try one of the new rooms and pair it with something free and civic, the calendar is doing the sorting.
What is about to arrive
Two more openings will change the walking map again before the year turns. Sant Ambroeus, the nearly 90-year-old Milanese café and gelateria with locations in New York and the Hamptons, is opening at 301 N. Beverly Drive, which places a third daytime anchor on Beverly Drive alongside the recent L'Agence, Tory Burch, and Veronica Beard flagships. The Beverly Hills CVB has also confirmed the upcoming relocation of the longtime deli Nate 'n Al's and the debut of the French-Mediterranean concept Azur.
The larger backdrop is a scheduled reset of the city's luxury retail spine. Cartier is unveiling a three-story boutique, Louis Vuitton is opening a 45,000-square-foot Frank Gehry-designed building, and Bvlgari is debuting an expanded space. On the hospitality side, the Beverly Hilton is in a property-wide revitalization as an anchor to the forthcoming One Beverly Hills development, which will include the first West Coast Aman Hotel, Residences and Private Club. That project alone will change the sightlines at the Wilshire and Santa Monica intersection for the rest of the decade.
Read together, the pattern is coherent. The city is using the runway to the FIFA World Cup and the 100th anniversary of Route 66 to reset both what a Beverly Hills dinner looks like and where in the city it happens. The restaurants are the leading indicator; the retail and hotel projects are the follow-through.
A late-summer route worth walking
For a design-minded owner who already lives here, the argument is not to eat somewhere new for the novelty of it. It is that the Canon and Beverly Drive block faces are quietly hosting the most interesting six months of dining the neighborhood has produced in a decade, and the physical experience of it, with the concert series still running and the retail construction not yet finished, is a specific and short-lived thing. Sant Ambroeus will change the morning. Louis Vuitton's Gehry building will change the afternoon. Aman will change the evening. Until then, the version of Beverly Hills you can walk on a Thursday between 6 and 10 p.m. is one that will not exist again.
The other quiet consequence, for owners thinking about what these openings mean for the streets they live on, is that the neighborhoods radiating from this corridor, the flats south of Santa Monica and the trousdale-adjacent lanes above Sunset, are being re-priced by proximity to a walkable evening rather than to a hotel lobby. That is a slower story, and one for another post.
For now, the assignment is simpler. Pick a Thursday before August 20, park once, and see how much of the new map you can cover on foot.
